On this back cut layout in the image above the maximum depth of cut is .445", the maximum height of cut is set at .712". Every crown, cove or bed pattern we design have height numbers near the degree of angle on the layout paperwork we supply. That number must be smaller than the height number above, in this example .712" for this knife to be able to cut the entire height of the bevel while milling, if not please select a larger size height bevel of the same degree. We intentionally design all our crown, cove and bed moldings with forty-five degree bevels and under to be milled on the right vertical cutter head, and, all forty-five degree and higher back bevels be milled on the left vertical cutter head. Our custom design practices will save you thousands of dollars in manufacturing cost over the years.
For moulding knife quoting purposes click to open the calculator below, we supplied only the important measurements, just enter the appropriate dimension in the boxes provided. A brief detailed explanation on how to use the calculator is located here. If you would like some assistance with the dimensions feel free to print a copy of our fraction - decimal - millimeter chart, place it on the molder, or around the shop to help machine operators save time and increase accuracy during setup procedures.
Thickness = 1.625" / Depth of Cut = .445" (right blades).
