In classical architecture, the word dentil derives from a Latin word (dens) or the French word (dentelle) both meaning tooth. In modern woodworking times dentil are defined a small, usually square repeating blocks or bands of wood used to decorate and highlight areas in a bed mould of a cornice/crown build up on exterior buildings, interior uses include, below the crown or around a fireplace mantle to name a few.
We have thirteen of the most popular profiles in our catalog, some are planted on the crown, and others are rabbeted on the backside, this area is where the bottom of crown moulding would rest when installed, highlighting the overall architectural décor of the room. They are labor intensive to make if you're doing the cross-cut dado on a table saw or cnc machine, but when installed they can really make the room grandeur.
Whatever style of dentil you're looking for, we are confident you will find something that will enhance the architectural design of your magnificent home or office, if not, send us a sketch, we would be happy to design a profile on cad, cut an acrylic template on our state of the art cnc machine and grind a set of knives on our Weinig R 960 grinder for any pattern you desire.
