Dentil Mould Catalog

In classical architecture, the word dentil derives from a Latin word (dens) or the French word (dentelle), meaning tooth. In modern woodworking times, dentil is defined as small, usually square repeating blocks or bands of wood used to decorate and highlight areas in a bed mold of a cornice/crown build-up on exterior buildings. Interior uses include below the crown or around a fireplace mantle, to name a few.

We have thirteen of the most popular dentil molding profiles in our catalog. Some are applied on the crown. In contrast, others retain a rabbet on the backside. This area is where the bottom of the crown molding would rest when installed, highlighting the overall architectural decor of the room. They are labor-intensive to make if you're doing the cross-cut dado on a table saw or CNC machine, but they can make the room grandeur when installed.
