We define a cap moulding as any profile that covers another object of the architectural trim element in a building or structure, such as a casing, wall partitions, paneling, windows sills, and balustrades just to name a few.
We offer over three hundred and thirty different styles of caps for your consideration and use, some of our picture frame designs may also be utilized as a cap moulding. Backband patterns are used in conjunction with casing profiles to create a more extravagant look that will enhance the beauty and décor of any home or office building. Wall caps cover the top section of a wall or partition, they provide a decorative way of joining the two parallel sides of the wall, they can serve as a handrail on shorter type walls. Wainscot caps are horizontal wood mouldings that cover the end grain of the wainscoting or any other type of paneling where it meets the wall surface. Balustrade caps are like a handrail, they cover the top part of a row of balusters serving as an open parapet, like along the edge of a balcony, terrace, or staircase.
Most designs will have either a rabbet or dado milled into the bottom, or sides of the moulding to receive, cover, and cap the element it is merging with, but not all, drip caps for instance will have a small half round circle milled on the bottom edge to direct moisture away from the exterior window sill, and wall, protecting the structure from water damage.
