When searching these profiles please input finish width dimensions for size preferences. Half rounds are semicircular patterns that are generally half the thickness of the overall width dimension. These types of profiles can be used for shelf edging, nosing for countertops, battens, decorative enhancements for cabinets, or become creative by utilizing them as an element in a cornice or crown buildup.
Please note: Half round knives cannot be utilized for milling nosings, and vise versa, the reason being half rounds are generally milled on a top horizontal cutter head, the profile knives will come within twenty thousandths of an inch from the bed plates. Bullnose profiles are generally milled on either the right or left vertical spindles, these types of cutters have blend areas built into the knife design, this makes them project further by about three sixteenths of an inch longer than a half round, this is to be able to blend into the top and bottom horizontal straight cutters, so those could not be utilized as half round cutters on the top spindle because the blend area would crash into the moulder bed plates. If you tried to use a half round knife as a bullnose with no blend area in the design this would cause cut lines to remain in the finished moulding, leaving the product damaged and unsellable.
We currently have over forty different sizes of half rounds ranging for one quarter inch wide to four inches wide, a few larger size designs will require multiple sets of profile knives to mill the pattern because of the depth of cut. On the smaller, 3/4" wide and under, we can simultaneously mill multiple pieces, keep in mind, anti-kickback devices are recommended for this type of milling operation for safety purposes. This unique splitter style custom knife is a great way to utilize fall off rips of lumber while multiplying production in a fraction of time.
