Please note: half-round knives cannot be utilized for milling nosings. And vise versa, the reason being, half rounds are generally milled on a top cutter head; the profile knives will come within twenty-thousandths of an inch from the machine bed plates. Bullnose profiles get milled on either the right or left cutterheads. These types of cutters have blend areas built into the knife design. The blend area makes the knives project further by about three-sixteenths of an inch longer than a half-round design. The reason is to blend the top and bottom horizontal straight cutters, so those could not be utilized as half-round cutters on the top spindle because the blend area would crash into the machine bed plates. If you tried to use a half-round knife as a bullnose with no blend area in the design, they would cause cut lines to remain in the finished molding. This unsightly line would leave the product damaged and unsellable.
Mirror Reflections currently have over forty different sizes of half-rounds ranging from one-quarter inch wide to four inches. A few larger-size designs will require multiple sets of profile knives to mill the pattern because of the depth of cut. We can simultaneously mill numerous pieces on the smaller, 3/4", and under. Remember that we recommend anti-kickback devices for this milling operation for safety purposes. This unique splitter-style custom knife is a great way to utilize fall-off rips of lumber while multiplying production in a fraction of the time. If, by chance, you don't see the size you need, please tell us the dimension you want; we would be happy to make a set of custom knives for any profile you require. Don't forget; we have an easy-to-use knife calculator located directly under every pattern in our catalog, offering fast price quotes.
When searching these profiles, please input finish width dimensions for size preferences.
