This 38.5 degree back bevel cutter
is designed to mill a thirty-eight and one half degree chamfer on the right side of a piece of crown, cove, or bed molding. These knives create only half the determining factor of the final height and projection of the crown/cove moulding when installed, it is purposely back cut one half a degree to help offset cupping after milling. The other half of the equation for crown/cove mouldings generally will be a degree that combined equals ninety or slightly more. On this bevel layout, the maximum depth of cut is .625", the maximum height of cut being set at .787". Every crown moulding we layout have height numbers near the degree bevel, that number must be smaller than the height number, in this case .787" for this knife to be able to cut properly while milling, if not please select a larger size height bevel of the same degree.
We layout all our crown mouldings with forty-five degree bevels and under milled on the right vertical spindle, and all forty-five degree and higher bevels milled on the left vertical moulder spindle. This custom design practice will save thousands of dollars in manufacturing cost over the years.
Take advantage of our specialized design skills, over thirty years of experience in wood moulding manufacturing, superior designed acrylic templates, and exceptional quality custom moulding knives.
