Handrail 3-1/2" - 24

This mid-sized 3-1/2" - 24 bending rail measures 3.500" wide by .250" thickness. The efficient profile is used in manufacturing bending handrails around radiuses on a staircase; generally, the thicker the slats, the less of a radius is needed for bending. It is composed of a 27/32" broad straight flat line on the right, connected to a 5/16" wide by 1/8" tall half-round tongue and groove bead, joined to a 2-11/32" broad line segment in the left portion in the image above. The pieces get milled separately, as shown, then stacked together and secured; after that process, the lumber is machined again with the shape of the railing milled into the outer pieces of the stacked slats. The outside pieces are often thicker to accommodate the profile's depth milled into the stacked pieces' side edges.
