This 3/8" Vee Joint Tongue & Groove Moulding 1/2" - 17 measures .500" thickness with a .308" depth of cut on the right vertical set of cutters, and a .438" depth of cut on the left vertical set of moulding knives, the width is manufactured to any desired size during the milling process.
The profile is comprised of a 3/16" wide by 5/32" tall tongue & groove with a 3/16" wide by 1/8" deep chamfer on one edge, there is .010" void in the joint area for expansion and contraction of the wood during seasonal changes in relative humidity. When two pieces of finished milled lumber are joined together they create a 3/8" wide by 1/8" deep vee joint on the face side of the merged boards.
Ever wonder why some moulding knives never exactly line up with one another in the cutter head? Maybe reviewing the process in which you align the blades in the cutter head will help eliminate this issue.
